L'USO DI ARMI AD URANIO DEPLETO (IMPOVERITO)
www.albasrah.net
all'altro mondo, avendo a ccusato gli stessi sintomi presentati dai

Sham Iraq 'elections' in deep trouble
John Catalinotto
Former CIA "asset" and current Iraqi "Premier" Iyad Allawi telephoned
President George W. Bush Jan. 3 to discuss problems about holding the Jan.
30 national elections in Iraq. The big question was whether the upsurge in
both armed and popular resistance would force them to postpone the
elections. The official answer was still "no," but it was obvious the
elections were headed for at least as big a disaster as the U.S. occupation
in general.

Good news for Iraq
U.S. Company to Send Hungry Iraq Dogs Food
Some 30,000 pounds of dog food is on its way to the Middle East to feed a
unit of starving Iraqi canines, after an e-mail sent by a local Army
Reserve captain elicited offers to help from across the nation (...) Judith
Ruiz, president of the Las Vegas Valley Humane Society, said she received
calls and e-mails from across the nation as word spread about the hungry
Iraqi dogs. An air freight provider had offered to fly donated dog food to
Baghdad. " All across the country the love and compassion for these animals
is absolutely extraordinary," Ruiz said. "It's very heartwarming, the
emotions and the commitment"...

The Medact study found that "... there were more children underweight or
chronically malnourished than before the US invasion"

From El Salvador To Iraq: Death Squads Come In Waves
Charles Demers, ZNet
...And it was that very Quagmire, in Babylon, that snapped us back into the
realpolitik of our current post-January 10th paradigm. Shifty, far-out,
conspiratorially anti-government sources like Newsweek began to report on a
raging debate in the Pentagon that has definitively put to rest any
Tsunami-mirage hopes that in 2005, the white North might assign even mildly
human-like values to non-white lives: The debate over the "Salvador
Option," a term in an of itself so chilling and inhuman as to recall the
moral fitness of another first-world regime that weighed the "option" of
Madagascar against Zyklon B...

The Way to World War III
Xymphora
From Newsweek (my emphasis): " . . . one Pentagon proposal would send
Special Forces teams to advise, support and possibly train Iraqi squads,
most likely hand-picked Kurdish Peshmerga fighters and Shiite militiamen,
to target Sunni insurgents and their sympathizers, even across the border
into Syria, according to military insiders familiar with the discussions.
(...) If you really wanted to start a civil war in Iraq and World War III
in the Middle East - and the neocons do - this would be the way to do it.
Paying a group of terrorists from one ethnic group to target insurgents
from another ethnic group, not to mention their 'sympathizers' - which
presumably covers the entire Sunni population of Iraq - is simply insane...

How Pentagon & Bush Cabal Lost the War on Iraq
MORGAN REYNOLDS
Gene Lyons is my favorite leftist columnist down here in Arkansas and the
other day he quoted a chilling account from The Economist-- "American
soldiers tack [bilingual notices] to their rear bumpers in Iraq: 'Keep 50m
or deadly force will be applied'" "...The marines are jumpy. Sometimes,
they say, they fire on vehicles encroaching with[in] 30 metres, sometimes
they fire at 20 metres." Says one lieutenant: "If anyone gets too close to
us, we [bleeping ] waste them. It's kind of a shame, because it means we've
killed a lot of innocent people." Yes, kind of a shame, isn't it? Mass
quantities of deadly force expended daily and plenty of dead Iraqis,
probably over 100,000 and half of them women and children, not to mention
the death and severe wounding of thousands of Americans. Perhaps we have
stumbled upon a quantitative metric for Bush's compassionate conservatism
as practiced in Iraq: hold your fire until 20m, that's compassionate; waste
'em at 50m+, that's conservatism...

Pentagon Admits ¡°Salvador Option¡± in Iraq
Kurt Nimmo
...Considering this, why is it absurd or ¡°conspiracy mongering¡± to
speculate that the CIA and the Pentagon would kill Hassan¡ªwho was, after
all, as CARE¡¯s director in Iraq and a vehement critic of the United States
for years, a big fat thorn in the side of the Strausscon plan for Iraq and
ultimately the entire Muslim Middle East? It makes perfect sense that she
would be abducted, killed, and then the blame shifted to the Iraqi
resistance, a resistance (and its sympathizers) now targeted by the
Pentagon in a macabre replay of Latin American and Vietnam style death
squad campaigns...

Full circle? Well almost
William Bowles
...And what could be a greater demonstration of this process at work than
the Tsunami and how even as the Western world milks peoples' compassion for
all its worth, it continues to rain death on the Iraqi population (perhaps
$5 billion in 'aid' versus $100 billion to wage war), talks of 'freezing'
Third World debt for a year (but not cancelling it, knowing that in a year,
they can begin to squeeze the poor once more) and funnels 'aid' to the
Indonesian government even as it takes advantage of the chaos to continue
to wage war on the population of Aceh. And ironies of ironies, those most
able to send aid, the big corporations, are the most stingy, thinking that
a figure like £1 million sounds a lot until you realise that £1 million is
perhaps only one hour's turnover for a large, multi-national corporation...

Oil Moves Above $46 on Iraq Sabotage
Reuters
Oil prices climbed nearly a dollar on Monday, moving above $46 a barrel on
escalating sabotage at Iraqi oil facilities and the risk that a U.S. cold
spell would strain thin winter fuel supplies. U.S. light crude rose 84
cents to $46.27 a barrel, building on last week's nearly $2 rise and
breaking beyond the market's month-long $40-$45 trading range. London Brent
was up 92 cents at $44.10 a barrel...

America's Death Squads
They're murdering innocents in Iraq
Justin Raimondo, AntiWar
Six months in jail - for a wanton murder. That's fair, now isn't it? It is
if the victim is Iraqi, and the murderers are four American soldiers -
that's what a military court recently decided, and it's a verdict that
tells us everything we need to know about the "liberation" of Iraq. Jan. 3,
2004 - Two young Iraqis, Zaydun al-Samarrai and Marwan Hassoun, were
transporting bathroom fixtures in their truck when i t broke down and their
trip back home was delayed...

U.S. Soldiers Flee to Canada to Avoid Service in Iraq
Charles Laurence, The Telegragh U.K
American Army soldiers are deserting and fleeing to Canada rather than
fight in Iraq, rekindling memories of the thousands of draft-dodgers who
flooded north to avoid service in Vietnam. An estimated 5,500 men and women
have deserted since the invasion of Iraq, reflecting Washington's growing
problems with troop morale. Jeremy Hinzman, 26, from South Dakota, who
deserted from the 82nd Airborne, is among those who - to the di sgust of
Pentagon officials - have applied for refugee status in Canada...

Gonzales nomination hearing: US Senate welcomes a war criminal
Bill Van Auken, WSWS
Virtually all of the news reports of Alberto Gonzales's appearance before
the Senate panel considering his nomination as US attorney general had
similar headlines: "Gonzalez repudiates torture," "Gonzales disavows
torture tactics," "Gonzales says he's opposed to torture." The testimony
highlighted in these reports is, in fact, a lie...

Americans talking to themselves in Fallujah
Nigel Parry, Electronic Iraq
There is a good reason that the U.S. Administration would want to
discourage any focus on Fallujah at this time. In the last weeks, residents
who fled the fighting in the city have been beginning to return, and even
those who have not lost family members are finding utter devastation of
their former lives...

Targeting Congress on Torture
Making the Bush team responsible for international crimes against detainees
Nat Hentoff
The drumbeat to focus responsibility for the torture and other vicious
abuses of noncitizen prisoners in American custody has begun. But it has
not yet stirred Congress. Not only is the Republican leadership silent, but
where is the outrage from the minority leaders—Harry Reid in the Senate and
Nancy Pelosi in the House?...

British Soldiers accused of abuse in Iraq
Mark Townsend, The Observer
Images of British troops allegedly torturing Iraqis will be aired in a
series of potentially explosive courts martial starting this week (...).
According to those who have seen the grainy images, one reveals a soldier
standing on an Iraqi who appears to be lying in a pool of blood. Another
picture allegedly captures a troop aiming a kick at the head of one Iraqi
stretched out on the ground. The roll of 25 pictures taken by Bartlam
apparently als o features a gagged Iraqi dangling from a fork lift truck
operated by a smiling British squaddie. Later, the same Iraqi prisoner is
cut down from the truck, falling heavily to the ground. The snaps allegedly
include some of a sexual nature with reports that one reveals an Iraqi
captive being forced to give oral sex to a British soldier...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Saturday, 8 January 2005
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member editorial board The
Free Arab Voice.
...The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent noted that US forces have been using
the civilian population in the city against the Resistance, by encouraging
the civilians to come in and stay in the parts of the city that are under
US control, thereby affording the Americans some protection against
Resistance attacks, since the Resistance does not want to inflict casu
alties among the city's innocent citizens. The Resistance has distributed
leaflets calling on local residents to leave, lest they unwittingly provide
a haven for the American invader troops...
