militari», è l'allarme lanciato ieri dal quotidiano The New York Times. Su

abbiamo in abbondanza.

Nazionale...

Tareq Aziz: prigioniero o sequestrato?
Intervista all'l'Avv. Daniele Bertaggia
Enrico Galoppini , Aljazira.it
"processo". Tra questi, il vice-primo minsitro Tareq Aziz. Aljazira.it ha
contattato l'Avv.

all'ondata di violenza...

Westerner beheaded on Mosul street as American forces lose control of key city
Patrick Cockburn, The Independent
... Mosul, a city on the Tigris river with a population of 1.2 million, is
largely populated by Sunni Muslims but has a large Kurdish minority. It has
increasingly fallen into the hands of Sunni insurgents over the past six
weeks. Insurgents launched an uprising on 10 November, two days after the
US Marines started their attack on Mosul, and stormed 10 police stations.
Out of a local police force of 8,! 000, all but 1,000 have deserted and
only 400 of those remaining are considered reliable...

U.S. isn't winning against Iraqi insurgents, agencies warn
WARREN P. STROBEL, JOHN WALCOTT AND JONATHAN S. LANDAY , Knight Ridder
Newspapers
The CIA, the Defense Intelligence Agency and the State Department have
warned President Bush that the United States and its Iraqi allies aren't
winning the battle against Iraqi insurgents who are trying to derail the
country's Jan. 30 elections, according to administration officials. The
officials, who agreed to speak only on condition of anonymity because
intelligence estim! ates are classified, said the battle in Iraq wasn't
lost and that successful elections might yet be held next month...

The Road to Armageddon
xymphora
... The neocons and their enablers justified the attack on Afghanistan on
the need to punish bin Laden, justified the attack on Iraq on the
allegations that Saddam was a bin Laden ally and was also behind 9-11, are
setting up to justify the attack on Syria based on its alleged help for the
Iraqi resistance, will use the same argument to justify the attack on Iran,
and so on, ad infinitum, ad nauseam...

Iranian Manchurian
TomPaine.com
... But the important thing to understand is that the forces in Iran
supporting Sistani, Shahristani, Hakim and Al Dawa are a faction of
Iranians amenable to collaboration with the United States, Israel and the
neocons. They are still (of course) Islamic revolutionaries, but slightly
more moderate than the hardest of hardliners in Iran. They are the faction
of illusory moderates that Bill Casey, Ollie North and Michael Ledeen
courted during Iran-Contra in the mid-1980s, and I belie! ve that Hashemi
Rafsanjani—who is now contemplating a run for the presidency of Iran—is one
of them...

Neo-cons on the road to Damascus
Jim Lobe
Just when it appeared that Syria was complying in earnest with US demands
to secure its border with Iraq, and even making unprecedented peace
overtures to Israel, key neo-conservative opinion shapers are calling on
President George W Bush to take stronger measures against Damascus,
possibly including military action. The media campaign was launched last
week when three analysts associated with the Foundation for the Defense of
Democracies, a neo-conservative group that g! enerally backs positions of
Israel's right-wing Likud Party, published an article in the Washington
Times titled "Syria's murderous role: Assad aides [sic] Iraq's terrorist
insurgency"...

Tomgram: Michael Schwartz on America's Fallujan dystopia
Tom Engelhardt & Michael Schwartz
...It is not much of a reach to see that, at least in their fantasies, U.S.
planners would like to set up what sociologists call a "total institution."
Like a mental hospital or a prison, Falluja, at least as reimagined by the
Americans, will be a place where constant surveillance equals daily life
and the capacity to interdict "suspicious" behavior (however defined) is
the norm. But "total institution" might be too saniti! zed a term to
describe activities which so clearly violate international law as well as
fundamental morality...

Torture Begins at the Top
Joe Conason, Salon.com
Renewed exposure of prisoner abuse, torture and even murder by American
military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan is widening already deep
divisions between the Pentagon and the intelligence community - and
creating an untenable situation for Donald Rumsfeld, the beleaguered
secretary of defense. A recently disclosed FBI memo indicates that
"marching orders" to abandon traditional interrogation methods came from
the defense secretary himself...

We Will Reclaim Our Armed Forces!
Speech by Stan Goff at the December 11 Public Meeting and Speak Out in New
York City
Stan Goff, Bring Them Home Now!
...This is one reason we are important to the movement not just against the
war, but the movement to overthrow a system that breeds war, why veterans
and military families and dissident soldiers are so important in this
crucial period. In this period when the old tricks no longer work, and the
depredations of this global system have once again co! nsumed the very
bases of that system - its subordinated people and its wrecked environment
- the essence of that system, its true essence, the gun and the bomb and
the rape and the prison, are being unmasked by the necessity to use these
colonizers' tools openly to preserve power...

Nation Doesn't Need an AG Who Cleared Path for Torture
Jamie Mayerfeld and Darius Rejali
Months after our nation was confronted with the photos from Abu Ghraib, we
now hear almost daily reports of continuing torture and abuse in U.S.
detention facilities around the world. One of the men principally
responsible for this problem is Alberto Gonzales, chosen by President Bush
to lead the Department of Justice, and scheduled to appear before the
Senate Judiciary Committee early next year...

Fiddling as Iraq Burns
Bob Herbert
The White House seems to have slipped the bonds of simple denial and
escaped into the disturbing realm of utter delusion. On Tuesday, there was
President Bush hanging the nation's highest civilian honor, the
Presidential Medal of Freedom, on George Tenet, the former C.I.A. director
who slept through the run-up to Sept. 11 and then did the president and the
nation the great disservice of declaring that it was a "slam-dunk" that
Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction...

Emmaus grad speaks against war in Iraq
Michael Hoffman spent two months there with Marines.
Randy Kraft
If you have one of those magnetic ''support our troops'' ribbons on your
car, Michael Hoffman suggests you grab a marker and add a few words:
''Bring them home now.'' Hoffman, who graduated from Emmaus High School in
1997, returned to the school Thursday night to speak out against the war in
Iraq. ''Being against the war is the only way to be for the troops,'' said
Hoffman. ''We're doing them! no good by sending them over there''...

CIA Agent Says Bosses Ordered Him To Falsify WMD Reports
Democracy Now!
...We turn now to the story of how a senior intelligence officer was
targeted by the CIA after he refused orders from his superiors to falsify
his reports on weapons of mass destruction. The senior CIA operative
charges in a lawsuit made public last week that a co-worker warned him
three years ago that "CIA management planned to 'get him' for his role in
reporting intelligence contrary to official CIA dogma."

Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member editorial board The
Free Arab Voice
...A spokesman for Palestinians resident in Iraq has reported that on
Monday, 6 December 2004, US occupation forces massed a large force of
tanks, armored vehicles, and infantry, all supported by helicopters, to
encircle the Hayfa Sports Club, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, and
the residential area where many Palestinians live in the Baladiyat section!
of eastern Baghdad. American troops kept the area surrounded as they
savagely raided and ransacked the civil facilities inside their cordon,
terrorizing local residents and staff from the afternoon until midnight...

Document: Intel Agents Who Saw Detainee Abuse Were Threatened
The Memory Hole.
A memo from the head of the Defense Intelligence Agency reveals that two
DIA agents who witnessed abuse of detainees in Iraq were threatened by the
interrogators. It was released as part of a Freedom of Information Act
lawsuit brought by the ACLU, which sums up the document:
* A June 25, 2004 memo from Vice Admiral Lowell E. Jacoby, Defense
Intelligence Agency chief, entitled "alleged detainee abuse by TF 62-6,"
describing how DIA personnel who complained about abuses were threatened,
had their car keys confiscated and e-mails monitored, and were ordered "not
to talk to anyone in the U.S." or leave the base "even to get a haircut"...
