Take them out, dude: pilots toast hit on Iraqi 'civilians'

The Pentagon said yesterday it was investigating cockpit video footage that
shows American pilots attacking and killing a group of apparently unarmed
Iraqi civilians. The 30-second clip shows the pilot targeting the group of
people in a street in the city of Fallujah and asking his mission
controllers whether he should "take them out". He is told to do so and,
shortly afterwards, the footage shows a huge explosion where t! he people
were. A second voice can be heard on the clip saying: "Oh, dude"...

than one year. During that time, the Resistance has developed and advanced
steadily. It has spread to virtually every part of occupied Iraq and has
taken on and destroyed virtually every type of equipment used by the US
ground forces and their satellites a! nd stooges. Media coverage of the
Resistance, however, has been extremely poor, due in large part to US
pressure. When the Resistance Report began coming out after the US
aggression, the independent Arabic television networks and several
newspapers were reliable sources for information about the Resistance
struggle, providing coverage that was perhaps partial and inadequate in
scale - due to the vastness of Iraq - but that nevertheless gave a strong
indication of the struggle that the Iraqi people were putting up to the
occupiers of their homeland...

good analogy, and then promptly either forgot or ignored its ramifications.
Kerry said that invading Iraq after 9/11 could be compared to invading
Mexico after Pearl Harbor. Yet, somehow, after drawing the analogy, which
was a good one, he seemed to indicate that had we invaded Mexico after
Pearl Harbor, and had the Mexicans resisted our i! nvasion by force of
arms, we should have called in Canada and other allies to subdue the

apparently failing to make any significant dent in Bush's poll numbers, or

of Iraq is a bloody catastrophe? Why was the electorate so unmoved by the
abundant empirical evidence that the administration's policy in the Middle
East wantonly endangers America as it endangers the wider world? Kerry's
performance in the first presidential debate brought a much-needed lift of
spirits to this neck of the woods, but the Democratic candidate is up
against something more formidable than the person of George Bush: he has to
deal with the unquiet spirit of American puritanism and its long and
complicated legacy...
