The Secret Relationship Between Israel and Oil: What the US Media Hides
Wendy Campbell
...A case in point is the fact that American-Israelis in our government
want to "re-open" or re-instate, the pipeline that used to exist between
Iraq and Palestine, which is now specifically Haifa, Israel (...) Just as
Israel's connection to the war on Iraq has been kept out of the US
mainstream mass media (as you may have noticed, Israel has not even been
mentioned as one of our "allies" in the war on Iraq !), this choice nugg!
et of information with regards to Israel's ambition to get a basically free
supply of Iraqi oil is also kept out of view for the vast American public
consumption...

Kadhafi: Resistance in Iraq legitimate
Middle East Online
Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi said Wednesday that the ongoing "resistance"
to the US-led forces in Iraq was legitimate, while condemning acts of
violence perpetrated in the country. "The resistance of the Iraqis to
occupation is a legitimate right, especially as the reasons for the
occupation have evaporated," the official Jana news agency quoted Kadhafi
as saying...

Annan urged to pull U.N. staff from Iraq
EDITH M. LEDERER, ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER
Two organizations representing more than 60,000 United Nations staff
members urged Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Wednesday to pull all U.N.
staff out of Iraq because of the "unprecedented" risk to their safety and
security. In a joint letter to Annan, the staff organizations cited a
dramatic escalation in attacks in Iraq and said the United Nations
regrettably "has become a direct target, one that is particularly prone to
attacks! by ruthless extremist terrorist factions"...

Terrible symmetry of their war on civilians
Socialist Worker
George W Bush has authorised a major escalation of the war in Iraq. Until a
few weeks ago the common talk in Washington was that if Bush secured his
re-election then US forces would move to attack Fallujah in revenge for
their failure to secure the city from the resistance in April. But the Bush
camp fears that failure to deal now with the rising tide of resistance in
Iraq might undermine its election chances. Their policy is blood for
votes—more Iraqi ! agony and destruction in an effort to secure office...

Night raids rock Iraq
James Glanz, The New York Times
About 2,500 Marines and soldiers set up camps and conducted night raids
Tuesday and Wednesday over a wide swath of territory roughly 30 miles south
of Baghdad, rolling over desert terrain in armored vehicles, taking gunfire
from insurgents and uncovering at least two large caches of weapons...

Undermining Bush case for war, US weapons inspector says Iraq had no WMD
AFP
Undermining the central pillar of President George W. Bush's case for the
war on Iraq, the chief US arms inspector reported Wednesday that Saddam
Hussein had no weapons of mass destruction at the time of the 2003 US-led
invasion. In a report of more than 1,000 pages, Charles Duelfer, the head
of the Iraq Survey Group, concluded that Saddam destroyed most of his
chemical and biological weapons after his 1991 Gulf War defeat and that his
! nuclear program had "progressively decayed"...

A 'Transition' to Failure
Erik Leaver, AlterNet
...What Bush failed to mention was that his plan - which is, in effect,
staying the course - will only increase the Iraq War's already horrific
human and economic costs borne by both Americans and Iraqis. There is no
better proof of the consequences of the Bush "plan" than the grim reality
on the ground three months after the so-called "transition" of power. Since
June 30, U.S. military casualties have risen dramatically. The death rate
for non-Iraqi contractors ha! s doubled. The Iraqi resistance has
quadrupled its forces...

In Denial
Robert Thompson, Axis of Logic
...As has so many times been said, if a lie is repeated often enough it
will be believed, and the example here before us is that Saddam Hussein
supported his arch-enemies such as Mr Oussama bin Laden. As is well known,
the latter and his family were much closer to their fellow members of the
Carlyle Group than they were to the Iraqi Ba'ath Party...

Short: Iraq rebels just like French Resistance
manchester news
FORMER Cabinet minister Clare Short is at the centre of another political
storm after comparing the insurgents in Iraq to freedom fighters. The

on to claim that the IRA had "never targeted civilians". In an interview
with a newspaper in Dubai, the outspoken former international development
secretary said! that she "understood" the anger of Arabs who embraced
Islamic militancy...

Al-Zarqawi may not be behind Iraq attacks
Mohamad Bazzi, NEWSDAY
Whenever a car bombing, beheading or other spectacular act of violence
takes place in Iraq these days, U.S. officials are quick to blame Abu Musab
al-Zarqawi. If he hasn't already taken responsibility himself. But
according to an Arab intelligence assessment, al-Zarqawi is not capable of
carrying out the level of attacks in Iraq that he has claimed and that
American officials have blamed on him...

Canadian Firms Soaked in Iraqi and Afghan Blood
MATTHEW BEHRENS, CounterPunch
While Paul Martin was congratulating Canada on "not participating" in the
U.S.-led invasion and occupation of Iraq during last spring's federal
election, a Quebec-based weapons firm sealed a deal which will ensure that
every time Iraqi or Afghani blood is shed, a Canadian-made bullet will be
one of the prime suspects...

Israel Wins the Debates. More of the Same
TARIF ABBOUSHI, Counterpunch
...During his debate with John Edwards, Dick Cheney cited Saddam Hussein's
support for Abu Nidal and for the Palestinian suicide bombers as evidence
of the deposed Iraqi dictator's links with terror. But Abu Nidal and the
suicide bombers are enemies of Israel, not of the U.S. It is the Bush
administration's neoconservatives that have succeeded in defining our
enemies as Israel's enemies, and not, as is painfully clear, to our
benefit. Unfortun! ately, both the Democratic challengers and the
Republican incumbents define their future approach to Israel--and,
unwittingly, its consequences for our nation--with the same dreaded four
words: More of the same...

The six year old held hostage by the US
Simon Assaf, Socialist Worker exclusive
THOSE WHO took Ken Bigley hostage demanded the release of all the women
prisoners held by occupation forces in Abu Ghraib and Umm Qasr jails. The
US and British governments dismissed these demands, claiming that they held
only two women prisoners in Iraq. Socialist Worker can exclusively reveal
that this is a lie. A list of Iraqi prisoners seen by Socialist Worker
includes at least 70 women, as well as scores of children and old men..! .
