Palestinians and Internationals detained in occupied house near Nablus, Police say "not yet arrested," but confiscate internationals' phones Four activists (two UK, two USA) with the International Solidarity Movement are being detained without charge in an occupied house on the outskirts of the Old City. Israeli house occupations are all too common, and it usually involves residents of houses concerned being confined to one small room. Often the residents are not allowed to use electricity, telephones or make any contact with the outside world. They even suffer the humiliation of having to request permission to go to the toilet. When soldiers leave (sometimes after several months), they frequently leave the rooms they have used soiled and looted, and on many occasions, residents complain of having their electricity and phone lines disconnected. In this case, the family of ten had invited the four internationals into the house for support. The following is an extract from an article by Ahmad Nimer, a Pakistani journalist who found himself in this horrifying situation on one occasion: "There were eight of us in the small room, including an eight- month-old baby and an eight-year-old child. The soldiers refused to allow us to make phone calls and ordered us not to speak. They threatened that if there was any movement seen around the building - "even a bird" - we would be shot dead. We were kept in the room for two days without electricity and prevented from making contact with the outside world. During this time, around 20 soldiers used the house as a base. Snipers were placed on the roof. I discovered later that the snipers had killed my neighbour as she tried to cross the street to collect her baby from a nearby house." Please call the Nablus DCO to protest against this outrage: 056-234167 (International +972-56-234167) or 025-486218 (International +972-25-486218) Also phone the Ministry of the Interior to protest: 02-670-1411 (International +972-2-670-1411) or 02-670-1447 (International +972-2-670-1447) International Solidarity Movement 02-277-4602 ### www.palsolidarity.org ------------------------ Yahoo!
