The biological faculty the Moscow State University will carry out
3rd Internatonal Conference
"ECOPOLIS-2000: PROBLEMS OF URBAN ECOLOGY & SUSTAINABLE URBAN DEVELOPMENT"
Ecopolis is a new type of urbanization ensuring coherent development within the biosphere and processes of urbanization.
Urbanization on the territory of Ecopolis represents an ecologically managed and socially directed process.
The concept of Ecopolis was put forward by Prof. ?ron Brudny and Prof. Dmitry Kavtaradze in 1981.
"Ecopolis" is the name of the first long-term program of interdisciplinary researches of the coherent development of a nature and society (town Poutschino, Moscow district Kosino, 1978-1996), began analyzing the problems and realizing principles of sustainable urban development long before this expression in appeared in the speeches of politicians and scientists.
Conference materials accepted include for plenary, symposia and poster sessions devoted in this issue,
ˇ life-history backgrounds & problems of urban ecology,
ˇ socio-cultural features of the urban settlements (including demographic processes in urban populations),
ˇ public participation in forming "of green measures" in policy in urban development policy making,
ˇ how to educate townspeople in the field of nature conservation in cities&towns (biodiversity, habitats, landscapes etc.).

The work 6 symposia is planned for a conference. Symposia carry inter-disciplinar character, reflect key problems of urban ecology and sustainable urban development. They are:
1. Urbanization of biosphere - basic processes and factors of risk.
2. Problem of urban development and indicators of its sustainability.
3. Constructive - ecological principles of formation of environment of the man life.
4. Ecopolis Program, eco-cities concepts and modeling.
5. Man in city: ecology, ethology, social psychology.
6. Ecological problems of a urban transport infrastructure.
As a result of realization of a conference it is supposed
a) To elaborate the offers scientific and ecological public (NGOs) on ecologizaton the development of large cities of Russia for a Ecopolis type.
b) To discuss the scientific, administrative, organizational concept of cooperation of an ecological public and urban authorities upon the realization of ecological policy in Moscow and Moscow region;
c) To consider possible model of management of protected natural areas of city basing on scientific-methodical principles and purposes of sustainable development;
d) To continue to realize an updated Ecopolis program as a part of democratic reforms in modern Russian society;
The work of a conference will include plenary, symposia and poster sessions. Conference issued materials (texts of plenary/symposia and posters messages) will be issued by the opening day of the conference. The closing date for receiving messages on a conference is August 20, 2000.
The organizing committee will do its utmost to minimize of limit participation fees as well a any technical expenses of the participants.

The final scientific program of the conference will be formed by the Organising Committee from the accepted messages, which are in accordance with problems, goals and tasks of the conference. The organising Committee self define the possible kind of reports for participants - oral or poster.
Rules of registration of sent materials. The reception of materials will be confirmed. Acceptable conference materials include plenary/symposia reports (up to ten pages) and poster messages (up to two pages). Pages should consist of no more than 40 lines, 60 characters per line (A4 paper). Submission can in paper or electronic format (3,5" disk, RTF format) - either. The font should be 12 pt Times New Roman Cyr, field - top and bottom margins on 2,5 cms., left and right on 3 cms., through 1,5 intervals. Length of the submission includes tables, illustrations and list of the literature. In heading of the message should specified: the name of the message, the full name of the author, and respective contact address (if there is more 1 authors, please underline the probable lecturer), complete name of organization, city, the country, name of symposia, in which is planned performance, 8 key words, electronic address at will.
The data, reported at a conference, in the field of urban ecology, changes in sociocultural processes etc. will be fixed in a basis interdisciplinary system-dynamic model of development of modern European city created within the framework of the program "Ecopolis". For this purpose all laws of development of a nature and the societies published in materials of the participants of a conference, will be submitted by editorial board as the system diagrams and causal connections. Then they will be offered for discussion to the participants of a conference and after updating the Dynamic processes of urban development are published as the appendix "Dynamic processes in urban development: a nature and society".
The organizing committee does not provide the order of the tickets and booking of hotel reservations. We ask in time to take care of the return tickets.
The second circular with the preliminary program of a conference will be dispatched in the beginning of September, 2000.
