THE CRUEL DESTINY OF
WOMEN IN POLITICS: 15 YEARS OF
TRUTH ABOUT 'IDV' PARTY LIVED BY AN ‘INSIDER’ WANDA
MONTANELLI'S LOGBOOK 15 Years of
politics lived by an “insider” – 30 months to draw up, organize and catalogue
facts and papers and 2 hunger strikes: The new book of Wanda Montanelli, the
historical women’s leader of ‘Italia dei Valori’ (a centre-left political
party in Italy) who, above all, asks what happened to the Idv funds for
promoting women, and who has continuously fought against male chauvanism and
female discrimination Rome,
3 January 2013. -”Slapped.
The cruel destiny of women in politics. My fifteen dark years in the party of
Di Pietro and other stories” is the diary of Wanda Montanelli, ex-head of
the IDV Equal Oportunities Department, who narrates, day after day, all the
goings-on inside Antonio Di Pietro's party – from the marginalization of women
to the missing funds of Law 157/99. From two hunger strikes to the court cases
where Di Pietro and his legal office promote the small parallel association
parallel of the IDV party. From women's commitment to all the party
activities to encounters with the many different types of people who surrounded
the ex-magistrate of 'Mani Pulite'. Published
by Dante Alighieri, the book tells of 15 years of party life,
initiatives in piazzas, sit-ins in Montecitorio, street demonstrations
involving many women from all political leanings and different associations.
Told in 290 pages, with 1,500 quotes from people, famous in politics and other
institutions, as well as many other unknown activists who, together with
women, have built, tirelessly and with many sacrifices, Italia dei Valori,
the book places in the limelight the commitment of the many party activists who
worked without any renumeration, the party being without resources, striving to
create a 'clean' society. Able and strongly motivated people, who believed in a
political change that never came about due to the dominance of those of
questionable origins and no moral standards, and of whom, now, all is coming to
light. Wanda
Montanelli's logbook is a story of civil passion, lived and told from
within the party secretariats, with anecdotes of daily events, irony, a sense
of humour, criticisms of discriminatory choices, dreams, small victories and
disappointments, and with an unwavering hope for change despite the ordeals,
the harsh repercussions exacerbated over time, and still weighing heavily and
dramatically in Wanda's life, but who still continues to bravely battle on.
