The Corporate Media's threat to Freedom
Mike Whitney
There's no similarity between the corporate media and a "free press". The
corporate media operates according to its structural make-up, which
requires it to serve the interests of ownership and maximize profits. Its
top-down style of management ensures that it aligns itself with the
political powers that, in turn, create the opportunity for greater
prosperity. This explains why media giants have consistently concealed the
Bush administration's attack on civil ! liberties, supported the expansion
of executive power, and paved the way for global war. After all, they are
just acting in their own best interest, accommodating the political
establishment to allow for more consolidation and expansion. One hand
washes the other...

Bush Team Has Good Reason To Worry
Evelyn Pringle
In its systematic and concerted effort to portray a link between Saddam and
bin Laden, the White House propaganda team was so successful, that a poll
conducted in late 2002, showed that over half of the people polled believed
that Saddam was connected to 9/11. While that may have been great news for
the home team back then, the problem for Bush today, is that he is never
going to get 50% of Americans to erase their memory of all the statements
that were made and b! elieve the line that members of the administration
never said anything to make people think that Saddam was involved in 9/11.
The truth is that the story about Saddam supporting al Qaeda was a key
component in case for war and the administration worked non-stop to promote
it even though the basis for the story was debunked early on by
intelligence officials...

Wall Street Journal defends torture
Joseph Kay, WSWS
The editorial board of the Wall Street Journal has again come forward as
the mouthpiece of the most criminal and ruthless sections of the American
ruling elite. The newspaper's lead editorial on November 12, "A 'Tortured'
Debate," constitutes an unambiguous defense of torture as an indispensable
instrument of American policy. The Journal's intervention comes amidst an
acrimonious debate within the political establishment and the media over !
the government's official policy on torture...

An Iraq exit strategy, progressivism, and the incorporation of the
imperialist lexicon
B. J. Sabri, Online Journal Contributing Writer
Taking notice of the escalating deaths and military failure of the United
States to subdue the Iraqi armed resistance after 32 months of a
Hitlerian-like occupation, during which the Bush regime used every weapon
imaginable except a nuclear bomb, imperialists across Europe and the United
States began circulating a buzzword for a fictitious withdrawal from Iraq
called, "exit strate! gy." What is an exit strategy in the general sense?
Is it a plan to withdraw forces while still under fire? Is it just a plan
to just exit from an occupied place or country? If the United States wants
to exit Iraq, why does it need a strategy? Would not a workable plan would
be sufficient? Alternatively, what if the United States instead of seeking
an "exit strategy" is actually is pondering a staying strategy?...

Corporate Media and Amman Bombings: Nothing Here, Move On
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
It is simply amazing how the corporate media can ignore the obvious fact
there were no suicide bombers at the hotels in Amman, how photo evidence
proves beyond a shadow of a doubt the bombs were placed in the ceiling of
the hotels, and how it makes absolutely no sense for supposed Iraqi
resistance fighters to kill innocent civilians in a neighboring state.
Instead of pointing out these glaring inconsistencies, the corp! orate
media zooms in on Sajida Mubarak Atrous al-Rishawi, the Iraqi patsy alleged
to have participated in suicide bombings that never occurred, as the photo
evidence reveals...

Suing the War Party
Ahmed Amr, OrbStandard.com
...When the history of this neocon enterprise is finally written, the
outing of Valerie Plame will appear to be nothing more than a minor
tangential detail in a much larger conspiracy. Libby was by no means a lone
wolf and, in the final analysis, the betrayal of a CIA agent was merely a
crime to cover up another crime - the systematic corruption of intelligence
to make a case for an illegal war. So far, the legal process has snared
only one member of the cabal that e! ngineered this unnecessary and very
costly venture. If this is still America, the law will eventually catch up
with Douglas Feith, Paul Wolfowitz, Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, George
Bush and the assorted neo-con wizards responsible for this quagmire.
Without minimizing the importance of the Plame case, allow me to suggest
that we now have enough evidence available to prosecute a series of other
crimes...

Did Al-Zarqawi Really Bomb Amman?
Dr. Elias Akleh
Many people believe the lie that Al-Zarqawi had sent four suicide bombers,
including husband and wife, to Amman to bomb three hotels "centers for
launching war on Islam" and "a backyard for the enemies of faith... the
Jews and the crusaders" as claimed on the webpage of Al-Qaeda in Iraq. As
in Iraq the bombing succeeded in killing only Arabs, who happen to be Sunni
Moslems, the group Al-Zarqawi claim to defend in Iraq, "the bombing came in
response to the conspira! cy against the Sunnis" in Iraq, Al-Qaeda webpage
stated. Al-Zarqawi is a myth created by American psychological operation to
benefit the colonial expansion of the "American/Israeli/British Triad" in
the Arab World. Accusing Al-Zarqawi of Amman's bombing is just a cover up
for a more sinister political assassination...

Darkness Over Empire
Kim Petersen , www.dissidentvoice.org
Why is it that the US military's use of napalm in Fallujah is a surprise?
It does symbolize whopping moral hypocrisy in that the US government
insisted the casus belli for invading Iraq was that country's asserted
possession of weapons of mass destruction; so what does the US military do?
They use the self-same weapons on Iraqi civilians: napalm is a banned
chemical weapon. But hypocrisy drenched in evil is not new to US politicos,
nor was it new to hi! story's miscreants. Adolf Hitler in his Mein Kampf
wrote: "... the world will be governed by the law of natural distribution
of power, and then those nations will be victorious who are of more brutal
will and are not the nations who have practiced self-denial." The US
embodies this pre-Straussian philosophy close to its breast...

GI Special 3D14: "Let Them Send Their Strong Message"
www.militaryproject.org
I second Mike [Hastie] on his call for the Vietnam vets to pass the baton
to our vets of Iraq/Afghanistan. I've been privileged to work on several
occasions with these younger brothers and sisters. They're outstanding and
give me great hope about the future despite all the dark days that may lie
ahead. Kelly Dougherty, Jeff Englehart and Joe Hatcher are only three of
many Iraq vets that have impressed me with their strength and passion !
about ending the madness. I bring them up because they're here in Colorado
living in the bastion of military presence, Colorado Springs...

Iraqi Patsy Confesses on TV
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
In a concerted effort to put forward the fanciful suicide bomber story, the
Jordanians paraded an Iraqi woman on television. "The 35-year-old woman
[Sajida Mubarak Atrous al-Rishawi] - the sister of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's
right-hand man who was killed by U.S. forces in Iraqâ*"appeared on
Jordanian state TV hours after she was captured by security forces who were
tipped off by an al-Qaida claim that a husband-and-wife team participated
in Wednesdayâ! *™s bombings," reports the San Francisco Chronicle. Note how
suicide bombings run in Arab families and go all the way up the al-Qaeda
family totem pole to the dead Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Obviously, these Arabs
are dangerous nihilistic mental cases - or so the corporate media would
have us believe. It is sincerely perplexing the Jordanians knew nothing of
the attacks and yet closed in on suspects within a matter of hours...

Fallujah Revisited
Dahr Jamail's Iraq Dispatches
Nearly a year after they occurred, a few of the war crimes committed in
Fallujah by members of the US military have gained the attention of some
major media outlets (excluding, of course, any of the corporate media
outlets in the US). Back on November 26, 2004, in a story I wrote for the
Inter Press Service titled 'Unusual Weapons' Used in Fallujah, refugees
from that city described, in detail, various odd weapons used in Fallujah.
In addition, they provided detail! ed descriptions such as "pieces of these
bombs exploded into large fires that burnt the skin even when water was
thrown on the burns"...

Did Israel have Prior Knowledge of the Amman 11/9 Terror Attacks?
Michel Chossudovsky, GlobalResearch.ca
Did Israel have prior knowledge of the terror attacks on three hotels in
Amman, Jordan, which led to the death of 57 people? According to an
official Jordanian statement, the casualties included 33 Jordanians, six
Iraqis, two Bahrainis, three Chinese, an Indonesian, a Syrian, a Saudi and
an American. At least two authoritative news sources cast doubt on the
official version of events...

The Jordan river of lies
Xymphora
...Why would insurgents fighting the American occupation of Iraq decide to
take a busman's holiday and blow themselves up in Jordan? Didn't they have
enough to do in Iraq? Wouldn't their meager resources of available suicide
bombers be better put to use in Iraq? Why would Sunni insurgents in Iraq
head immediately to blow up a Sunni wedding reception in the hotel? Weren't
there much better targets around? Speaking of better targets, how lucky do
you have to be to kill a number of ! Palestinian officials, including the
head of Palestinian intelligence, and take out the Chinese defense
officials the Palestinians may have been planning to meet?...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Sunday, 13 November 2005
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board,
the Free Arab Voice
In a dispatch posted at 10:10am Mecca time Sunday morning, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that as US forces drove their patrols through the middle
of ar-Ramadi on Sunday morning, American troops opened fire on Iraqi
civilians for no apparent reason, according to Mafkarat al-Islam. Thirteen
Iraqis were killed in the American shooting spree. The ar-Ramadi correspon!
dent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported from ar-Ramadi that Dr Usamah al-'Ani
of ar-Ramadi General Hospital said that among the dead were professors from
al-Anbar University and teachers from ar-Ramadi secondary schools as well
as employees of ar-Ramadi General Hospital itself...

Twilight of the gods
Wayne Brown
I don't know how else to put this: Is US vice-president Dick Cheney mad?
And has his titular boss, GW Bush, started all unawares down the road to
impeachment? It may be too soon to answer those questions, but not to begin
asking them. Take Dick 'Darth Vader' Cheney. In 2002, preparing America for
his and Rumsfeld's long-planned attack upon Iraq, Cheney went on the air to
soulfully warn about Saddam's non-existent nuclear weapons' programme and
an apocryphal Prague meeting between ! an Iraqi intelligence official and
9-11's Mohammed Attar (...) Most outlandishly, six months ago, Cheney
declared the Iraq insurgency to be in its 'last throes' - this, just at the
point that it was spiraling out of control. Yet many people (including this
columnist) merely concluded the Veep was betraying an astonishing contempt
for his audience's intelligence - and left it at that.--

On Conspiracy Part 3
Les Skeates,Outside the Gates
...The 'false flag' suicide bombings attributed to Al Qa'ida in Iraq show
how 'conspiracy theory' is being exploited to divide and rule in Iraq and
couch the illegal occupation for the control of oil as a 'war against
terrorism' to the rest of the world. 'False flag' operations are not
restricted to Iraq. They are also being conducted in Britain and the USA
through 'left' organisations and the blogosphere. 'Full spectrum
domination' includes the internet. It woul! d be foolish to think
otherwise...

White House declines to totally rule out torture
AFP
In an important clarification of President George W. Bush's earlier
statement, a top White House official refused to unequivocally rule out the
use of torture, arguing the US administration was duty-bound to protect
Americans from terrorist attack. The comment, by US national security
adviser Stephen Hadley, came amid heated national debate about whether the
CIA and other US intelligence agencies should be authorized to use what is
being referred to as "enhance! d interrogation techniques" to extract from
terror suspects information that may help prevent future assaults (...)
Americans at large don't seem to have a clear-cut position on the use of
torture. The latest Newsweek opinion poll found that 58 percent of the
public would support torture to thwart a terrorist attack. But the same
survey showed that 51 percent of Americans believe it is rarely or never
justified, while 44 percent said torture is often or sometimes justified to
obtain important information...

"ON THE (POSSIBLE) INDICTMENTS."
Steven Jonas, MD, MPH
...As for Miller, even before the at-first-within-the-Times and then
most-public (viz. Dowd's column) contretemps over how she conducted herself
as a Times reporter, when she went to jail for 85 days, supposedly over a
freedom of the press issue, I was wondering what the real matter was. Libby
had given her permission to reveal his name as a source for the Valerie
Plame identity leak a year before. And she was protecting him as source of
that information? ! Didn't make sense. What did make sense to me, given the
prominent role that Miller played as a Times reporter in the run-up to the
War, and the role she tried to play afterwards in showing that there were
WMD in Iraq when indeed there were none, was this: my speculation that
Miller herself was an integral part of a criminal conspiracy to get the
country into a war based on lies...

White House whitewashes Lewis Libby Indictment
Iqbal Jassat
Revelations surrounding the indictment of Lewis "Scooter" Libby may appear
to sound familiar in the settings of a pre-colonial era. Conspiracies,
cover-ups, lies, deceit and denials are the ingredients usually associated
with regimes bent on deceiving ordinary folk in order to continue pursuing
illegitimate conduct. Yet the theatre in which the drama of injecting
dubious intelligence data in a highly sophisticated criminal enterprise is
not in some remot! e third-world country - it is in the heart of America!...

Defending the indefensible
Professor Pan
...So I do not buy the argument that most Dems decided to go to war because
they were fed bogus evidence. They voted for war because they cowered at

being seen as "weak" and hurting their own careers, and because the
imperial presidency tolerated no "traitors" and branded anyone not playing
along as treasonous...
